Arbour Vale School is the main special school in Slough, the only other school being a primary school for pupils with emotional and behavioural difficulties. We are situated on the outskirts of Slough, close to the Buckinghamshire border. Our pupils come from a range of cultural backgrounds, which adds richness and diversity to the population. The majority of pupils are from Slough and increasing numbers are drawn from the surrounding boroughs including Windsor and Maidenhead, Hillingdon and Buckinghamshire. Our numbers have been gradually increasing over the past 2 years and we have a larger number of pupils with complex needs and autism.

Main aims of the charity are as follows:

|  |  | DESCRIPTION A.C.T. is a Leeds based community outreach programme offering language and communication training to adults with autism who, currently, are unable to access an autism specific service. A.C.T. is part of the wider service offered by Leeds Christian Home for Adults with Autism, a registered charity affiliated to, and accredited by, the National Autistic Society.
The aim of A.C.T. is to increase the independence of each learner by identifying his or her specific needs and developing their skills in these areas. Training will be provided wherever it is most appropriate for the learner. This could be in a training centre, college, or in the learner’s own home. Provision is also available for learners to attend our training centre at Gledhow in north Leeds.

BBCA is working towards people with a learning disability being accepted by their local community as well as reducing social isolation.
We currently have 58 volunteer advocates who are matched on a 1:1 basis. Volunteers make a difference to the lives of people with a learning disability by ensuring their views are heard.
BBCA has advocated for 1,000 people since the project began in 1995.
During the course of our work we recognise that people with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder require a specialist advocacy service and we have received funding from BILD to pilot this work.

As a result of dedicated and sustained efforts, the Trust now has three registered homes, four supported living flats and a day service for up to ten adults with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
Bromley Autistic Trust also provides a Family Support Service helping over 300 families, an Outreach Service working with adults with ASD who live in the community and are developing a domiciliary support agency.
