Organisation : Ryvers Primary School - (Foundation Status) | | | | | DESCRIPTION Ryvers Autistic Resource Base Our Autistic Resource Base (ARB) forms the Primary Age strand of Slough Borough Council’s provision for pupils with a diagnosis of Autism.
ARB pupils integrate into mainstream lessons up to 80% of the week. The type and level of integration has been carefully monitored and adjusted in order to reflect the individual needs of the pupils. In addition, they take part in assemblies, whole school singing, class assemblies, end of term productions and a range of out of school visits and activities aimed at developing life skills. Within the ARB, pupils have opportunities for specialist support in Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Social Skills development and Emotional Literacy (learning to recognise and manage feelings appropriately). The ARB environment allows for calm learning and relaxation to take place, on those occasions when the general demands of the school day become too pressurising for the pupils.
In October 2004 the teacher in post wrote, ‘The genuine care, sensitivity and sense of fun shared between all Ryvers pupils, points very clearly towards the potential range of educational and social benefits available, in a resource like ours.’ The whole school continues to celebrate the inclusion of pupils with Autism and plans to develop further the experience of all Ryvers’ pupils through shared academic, behavioural, social and emotional learning opportunities. (NOR 480 aged 3-11) including Ryvers Autistic Resource Base (ARB)

Organisation : Spa School | | | | | DESCRIPTION The school catered for mixed needs until it specialised wholly in autistic spectrum disorder in 2002 when the last group of mixed needs students left school. Over the last few years the needs of each progressive intake of students have become more complex and challenging, with many children not able to communicate verbally.
Spa has a deeply committed staff team , who since the change from mixed needs have effectively taken up the challenge of providing a full curriculum for students with autism and most of all ensuring they maximise the skills which will enable them to take their place in society. There is further opportunity for a new head to deepen the knowledge and consistent practice in this area.
The school is a happy one, and children actively enjoy their education. There is strong provision of creative arts and practical learning opportunities such as horticulture in the school to enable every pupil to identify and build on their strengths and gain self esteem and confidence. The school has good links with parents and wishes to maximise these links by developing the Family Centre at the school.
To meet the needs of the most profoundly disabled and challenging students an Annexe to the main school was started in 2004. This is housed on a separate site and caters for 10 children who need intensive one to one or two to one support and are unable to function in the normal school environment. The successful development of this new project will be an opportunity for professional development in this new and growing field.
